The Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2027 Collection
A love letter to Wes Gordon and Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera Spring 2027, Acielle/Style Du Monde
The Carolina Herrera show at any fashion week is a highlight, but the show we were gifted during this week's NYFW took my breath away and reminded me, once again, why Wes Gordon is the best at what he does.
Celebrating the house's 45th anniversary, Gordon brought the collection back home to Manhattan after several seasons of international resort presentations in Madrid, Mexico City, and Rio de Janeiro. Held at the iconic David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, the runway was bordered by a sea of nearly 30,000 vivid yellow tulips, a visual metaphor for the pure joy, optimism, and unyielding glamour that Gordon has infused into the brand since taking over as Creative Director in 2018.

The Spring 2027 Collection: A New York Love Letter
The Spring/Summer 2027 presentation felt like an affectionate, exuberantly styled homage to both New York City and the brand’s origins in 1981. Gordon took the house's storied signatures (cinched waists, dramatic ruffles, graphic polka dots, and pristine white tailoring) and peppered them with witty, ultra-chic city references.
Standout Moments on the Runway
The Homage to 1981: In an official collaboration with The New Yorker, Gordon featured an embroidered recreation of the magazine cover that hit newsstands on April 27, 1981 (the exact date of Mrs. Herrera's debut fashion show) styled into a marigold-yellow mini dress and tops.
Warhol Pop Art: Andy Warhol's iconic 1979 pop art portrait of Mrs. Herrera was brought to life across embellished shift dresses and vintage-style beaded clutches, studded with crystals and sequins.
Cheeky NYC Details: Gordon sprinkled playful touches throughout the collection, including black-and-white cookie earrings and frog brooches, a nostalgic nod to La Grenouille, Mrs. Herrera’s favorite Manhattan dining institution.
Modern Polish & Texture: From structured grid-printed tweed trimmed in yellow beads to sheer emerald lace floor-length gowns and tiered silver-and-organza evening dresses, the collection balanced wearable daytime tailoring with show-stopping red carpet drama.

Wes Gordon’s Stewardship: Honoring Legacy While Looking Forward
Taking over an iconic heritage house is one of fashion’s most daunting challenges, yet Wes Gordon has made it look effortless. Since stepping into the role of Creative Director, he has honored Mrs. Herrera’s legacy while modernizing the brand for a new generation of women.
Before taking the helm at Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon had already cultivated a reputation as one of American fashion’s most meticulous young talents. After graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2009—where he spent summers interning at Oscar de la Renta, the Atlanta-reared designer launched his self-titled womenswear brand. For eight years, Gordon built a loyal following among high-profile figures like Michelle Obama and Gwyneth Paltrow, earning accolades as a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist and a Fashion Group International Rising Star. When he pivoted to consult for Mrs. Herrera in March 2017, an instant creative kinship formed. Impressed by his deep respect for traditional craft and shared appreciation for timeless elegance, Mrs. Herrera personally appointed Gordon to succeed her as Creative Director in early 2018.

Stepping into the top role at a major heritage house is a notoriously difficult tightrope, yet Gordon navigated the transition with exceptional poise. Rather than clearing the slate, he chose to "redecorate," honoring key brand signatures—the crisp white shirt, sculptural ballgowns, and bold proportions while injecting a fresh, youthful exuberance and an audacious sense of color. Debuting his first runway collection for Spring 2019, Gordon quickly proved that reverence and innovation could seamlessly coexist. Over his tenure, he has expanded the brand's global creative direction across ready-to-wear, fragrance, and eyewear, garnering industry honors like the 2021 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion and cementing his status as one of American fashion’s defining modern leaders.
Gordon’s tenure at Carolina Herrera proves that luxury fashion doesn't need to be cynical, overly complex, or ironic to be profound. In an era where fashion often trends toward minimalism or shock value, Gordon continually defends the power of unapologetic beauty, craft, and pure joy.
As Mrs. Herrera herself sat front row watching her 45-year legacy unfold in a bloom of yellow tulips, it was clear: the house of Carolina Herrera is in the absolute best hands.
